Tooth Gem Aftercare: How to Look After Your Tooth Gem

Tooth Gem Aftercare: How to Look After Your Tooth Gem

So, you've got your new tooth gem...

Whether you've chosen a classic crystal or one of our 18K Gold Adinkra gems, a little aftercare goes a long way. Looking after your tooth gems doesn't require a complicated routine. The most important thing is simply to keep up with your normal oral hygiene and be mindful of the gem while you're getting used to it.

The first few hours

Immediately after your tooth gem application, it's best to give the bonding material some time to settle.

Try not to eat or drink for the first two hours after placement. If you must drink, opt for water and drink through a straw avoiding the side where the gem was placed.

Can I brush my teeth with a tooth gem?

Yes! Keeping your teeth clean is still important when you have a tooth gem.

Continue your usual brushing and flossing routine, taking a little extra care around the gem. There's no need to avoid cleaning the area simply because you have a tooth gem.

Good oral hygiene is one of the most important parts of looking after your smile while wearing tooth jewellery.

Be mindful of hard or sticky foods

Tooth gems are made to be worn, but they aren't indestructible.

Try to avoid deliberately biting down on very hard foods or objects with the tooth carrying your gem. Habits such as chewing ice, biting your  nails or playing with the gem can also put unnecessary pressure on the bond.

You don't need to completely change the way you eat. Just be aware of where your gem is and treat it with a little care.

Don't pick or play with your gem

It can be tempting to touch a new tooth gem with your tongue or fingers, especially during the first few days.

Try not to.

Constantly pushing, picking, or pulling at the gem can put stress on the bond and may make it more likely to come loose.

What if my tooth gem comes off?

Tooth gems are semi-permanent, so they won't stay on forever and the exact lifespan can vary from person to person.

If your gem becomes loose or falls off, don't try to reattach it yourself with household or cosmetic glue. Instead, contact your tooth gem provider or dentist for advice.

If any bonding material remains on the tooth, it should also be removed by a dental professional rather than picked or scraped away at home.

Efya Gems offers all clients a one month warranty. If your gem comes off within this period, you are welcome for a free replacement.

Your smile comes first

A tooth gem is an accessory, but your dental health always comes first.

Continue with your regular dental hygiene routine and dental check-ups. If you notice anything unusual around the tooth or gums, or if you have concerns about your oral health, speak to your dentist.

Looking after your tooth gem is simple

There isn't a long list of rules to follow. Keep your teeth clean, avoid putting unnecessary pressure on your gem and give it a little extra attention when you're getting used to it.

And most importantly: enjoy your sparkle!
